Dr. Alexander is Co-Director of the Waisman Brain Imaging Lab and is a Professor of Medical Physics and Psychiatry. He received his Ph.D. in 1994 in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona and postdoctoral training in MRI physics at the University of Utah where he developed a research program on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of the human brain. He joined the faculty at UW-Madison in 2001. His research is focused on the development, evaluation and application of quantitative MRI methods for characterizing brain structure, microstructure and function. Applications include research studies of infant brain development, autism, anxiety and depression, traumatic brain injury, aging and Alzheimer’s disease, and image-guided drug delivery. He has co-authored more than 180 original scientific articles in peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Alexander is a Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
